In the ever changing field of psychiatry, it is essential that training includes ongoing changes to the latest technology and clinical services. The Tulane Psychiatry Training Program will provide you an up to date solid foundation in psychiatry by experiences with the latest biological and psychological approaches to patient care. Your training with focus on being thoroughly knowledgeable and versatile in your approach to mental health and mental illness.
Our training program comes through a four year didactic curriculum and at a variety of clinical sites where our residents rotate. We have affiliations with Tulane Hospital, New Orleans & Gulf Coast Veteran's Affairs Medical Centers, University Medical Center Hospital, and Northlake Behavioral Health System and Hospital. By working in the various systems, residents treat a very diverse patient population and understand the dynamic approaches to treatment which are available. There are several sub-specialty tracks also available at Tulane. These include: a solid triple board program in psychiatry-child/adolescent psychiatry-pediatrics, combined residency in Internal Medicine-Psychiatry, our fellowships in child & adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry; a chief resident in Quality Improvement position; an academic clinician educator track for those interested in teaching or research, a research path, and our expanding tele-psychiatry services across the state. Our training program is also very active in the local community.
New Orleans is also a wonderful place for training because you will work with patients from many different cultures and backgrounds. You will gain experience in treating patients who have experienced multiple traumas and need assistance in working through these experiences.
