Hiring Video: Best Practices When Hiring

Faculty Search Training Guidebook - Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are cherished values at Tulane and critical components of our commitment to excellence. They need to be integrated into all aspects of our operations, especially how we search for and recruit our colleagues. A successful search has two basic components – attracting a diverse pool of applicants and constructing an equitable process by which to engage with and assess the candidates. This guidebook created by the Provost’s Office addresses both of these challenges and is based on a growing body of research.

Reaching Diverse Candidates - Use this guide to help achieve recruitment of talented, qualified candidates in locations prominent among women, minorities, and underrepresented groups in medicine.

Planning an Inclusive Search Process - A successful, inclusive search process requires planning, patience, and intentionality. Once a faculty position becomes available for recruitment, Department leaders and the potential search committee members should create processes that are transparent, timely, and effective. Please contact the SOM Office of Multicultural Affairs for additional information and materials about Best Practices Hiring Guidelines to support your department goals surrounding diversity & inclusion and organizing an efficient and inclusive search process. This guide is a good place to start.
