The Tulane Institute for Physician Scientists (TIPS) is co-directed by Drs. Lee Hamm (Dean, SOM), Marie Krousel-Wood (Professor of Medicine, Sr. Assoc Dean Faculty Affairs, Associate Dean for PH and Medical Education), and Jay Kolls (Professor of Pediatrics, Director, Center for Translational Research in Infection and Inflammation). Organized in 2019, the TIPS is designed to foster and support the growing community of physician scientists at Tulane.
With the core program in the School Of Medicine, the TIPS is supported by several schools and programs across Tulane University. The Institute provides the infrastructure to track physician scientists in training, facilitate collaborations and networking, and provide career mentoring and skill-building opportunities.
The long-term goals of the TIPS are to continuously enhance structures and practices to:
TIPS utilizes a Mentoring Architecture for Physician Scientists designed to leverage current training opportunities and serve as the overall architecture that provides integrated activities to support the development of Physician Scientists. These activities increase exposure to research, provide innovative skills training, and support a diverse PS community and career development.
