1. An optometrist advised a patient to eliminate caffeine from her diet in order to decrease the intraocular pressure in her eyes. Two years later she was diagnosed with glaucoma by an ophthalmologist, who then began proper treatment. (LeBrun v. Conner)


2. An optometrist followed an 8 yo boy for 1 year with patching and glasses for “crossed eyes.” A summer camp pediatrician found his discs to be elevated, ultimately resulting in the discovery of a brain tumor requiring a CNS shunt to be placed. (Dickey v. Long)
