Benefits

Below is an excerpt taken from the Graduate Medical Education's Policies & Procedures Guide on Vacation, Sick time and Parental leave.

Residents receive 4 weeks of vacation time & 2 weeks of sick time each academic year (unused vacation/sick time cannot be carried over into subsequent years). The portion of parental leave that is paid leave equates to the amount of available vacation time and/or sick time the resident applies toward that leave. So a resident can receive up to 6 weeks of paid parental leave, if all 6 weeks of vacation time & sick time are available. Any parental leave that exceeds the residents available vacation/sick time becomes unpaid leave.

Residents planning to take parental leave must contact Bunnie Sylve, bsylve2@tulane.edu, Leave Coordinator in Tulane’s HR Dept., at least 30 days prior to the start of their leave. Bunnie will send the necessary FMLA paperwork that must be completed & returned to her.
