  • Dental Insurance: You may purchase optional dental coverage for you and your family through paid Dental Insurance Company.
  • Life Insurance: Tulane covers you with a $25,000 life insurance policy.  Supplemental insurance coverage is available.
  • Disability Insurance: Provided at no cost to you.
  • Malpractice Insurance: Provided at no cost to you through the Tulane University Office of the General Counsel
  • Educational Leave: Leave may be granted with the Program Director's approval.

  • Parking: Provided at Tulane Medical Center - Downtown garages at no cost to you.
  • Pagers: Provided by the university throughout the duration of your residency.

Below is an excerpt taken from the Graduate Medical Education's Policies & Procedures Guide on Vacation, Sick time and Parental leave.

Residents receive 4 weeks of vacation time & 2 weeks of sick time each academic year (unused vacation/sick time cannot be carried over into subsequent years). The portion of parental leave that is paid leave equates to the amount of available vacation time and/or sick time the resident applies toward that leave. So a resident can receive up to 6 weeks of paid parental leave, if all 6 weeks of vacation time & sick time are available. Any parental leave that exceeds the residents available vacation/sick time becomes unpaid leave.

Residents planning to take parental leave must contact Bunnie Sylve,, Leave Coordinator in Tulane’s HR Dept., at least 30 days prior to the start of their leave. Bunnie will send the necessary FMLA paperwork that must be completed & returned to her.
