The following materials are required for a completed application to Tulane Psychiatry Residency Program:

  • Application through ERAS
  • Dean's letter
  • Three letters of recommendation from faculty
  • Personal statement
  • Official medical school transcript

Please do not hesitate to submit your ERAS application on the initial release date (September 15.) We will send out invitations before some components (e.g. the dean's letter) are in the file. All applications must be received through ERAS by November 15.

Each year we have six PGY I Adult Psychiatry Residency openings.

Interviews

Interviews are done on Fridays and are conducted from mid-October through the end of January.

  1. The Interview: All Tulane interviews are on Fridays from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Applicants are invited to join current residents for an informal dinner on Thursday night. We will be sampling one of our great New Orleans Restaurants, so come hungry! Many applicants also choose to stay Friday and Saturday night in order to see, enjoy and pass a little time in the Big Easy. Odds are, there will be a festival on the weekend you interview (there are 412 festivals in New Orleans per year), so there will be more than enough to do and enjoy if you choose to stay the weekend with us.
  2. What to Expect on the Interview Day: Your interview day will begin with a light breakfast and an introduction to the program from a chief resident. You will then receive a brief tour at one of our inpatient hospitals. You'll join us for Psychiatry Grand Rounds at noon followed by our weekly resident lunch. You'll have plenty of time to relax with our residents and ask questions. You will then have one-on-one interviews with a few of our Faculty and Program Director. It is sure to give you a great overview of our program here at Tulane.
Couples Match

If you are participating in the Couples Match, please provide the name of your match mate and the residency program to which he/she is applying in the space indicated on your ERAS application.

International Medical Graduates

  • Applications are prioritized with a minimum USMLE score of 220 - however, we do review the entire application and do not base our decision solely upon the USMLE scores.
  • Foreign applications MUST be ECFMG certified and have passed the CSA before beginning residency if matched in our program.
  • We sponsor J1 VISA only.
  • We prefer one year of US clinical experience.
  • Year of graduation should be within 5 years of applying.
  • Observerships and externships are not available
Student Clerkships

Medical students interested in rotating at one of our Tulane facilities should apply through the AAMC Visiting Student Application Service.
