Graduates of the Tulane University Preventive Medicine Residency Program enter careers in governmental public health, clinical preventive medicine, academia and the private sector. Current positions of recent graduates are listed below.
Dr. Jaberi is the Assistant State Health Office of the Louisiana Department of Health in Baton Rouge. There he provides direct support and consultation to the Louisiana Department of Health, State Health Officer. Additionally, Dr. Jaberi serves as the Chief Medical Director for the Louisiana Office of Public Health, and provides high-level guidance to the agency's central office bureaus and programs, as well as nine administrative regions throughout the state. Public Health Physician and Administrator with over 10 years of experience as a Preventive Medicine Resident, Regional Medical Director, and District Director at local and state health departments. Dr. Jaberu has a large partnership experience with nonprofit organizations including Powhatan Free Clinic, Substance Abuse Free Environment Inc, and Louisiana Public Health Institute.
Dr. Toprani serves as the Medical Director of the Bureau of Environmental Disease and Injury Prevention at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. She received her Master of Public Health from Tulane Unversity School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 2006, and is licensed to practice medicine as a family physician in Astoria, New York.
Timothy S. Church, MD, MPH, PhD - John S. McIlHenny Endowed Chair in Health Wisdom, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge, LA
Tim Church, M.D., M.P.H, Ph.D., is one of the country’s leading physicians in exercise and obesity research. As chief medical officer of ACAP Health Consulting, Dr. Church seeks to reduce the production of and destruction from disease by guiding the company in the creation of clinical strategies and disease-specific battle plans. He is also a professor of preventative medicine at Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University. After earning his Medical Degree and PhD at Tulane University School of Medicine, he went on to be the Vice President of Medical and Laboratory Research at the Cooper Institute in Dallas. Dr. Church has written over 200 research article and is used as an expert source for preventative health for major national media journals, such as The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, NBC’s Today Show, The LA Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and many others.
Julie R. Holden, MD
Dr. Holden finished her residency at Tulane in December 2012. She is a Pharmacovigilance physician with board certification in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. Dr. Holden works as a Global Safety Physician at AstraZeneca in the greater Washington D.C. area.
Sheri Belafsky, MD
Dr. Belafsky serves as the Director on board of Western Occupational and Environmental Medical Association and is an Occupational and Environmental Medicine Physician with the UC Davis Medical Surveillance Program. She works with employers to identify potential workplace health hazards and design medical programs to help keep workers safe. Dr. Belafsky is active in planning educational content for both WOEMA and UC Davis medical providers.
John F. Beltrami, MD
Dr. Beltrami is a part-time instructor of HIV/STDs at the Georgia and Louisiana state health departments, Research Triangle Institute, CDC, Georgia State University. He also serves as an international consultant for NASTAD. His 18 years of experience include surveillance, epidemiology, research, integration, and program evaluation. He has served as an expert legal witness and consultant on HIV/STDs; he has authored HIV/STD scientific and abstract presentations and has given numerous presentations at the local, state, national, and international levels.
Rick R. Tague, MD
Dr. Tague is a nutrition and weight loss specialist and the Founder and Medical Director of the Center for Nutrition and Preventive Medicine. Dr. Tague’s treatment plans address common problems like excessive appetite, food cravings, overeating and stress eating, and “yo-yo” dieting. At Tague nutrition, based out of Kansas City, Dr. Tague and his team focus on providing the professional products and resources necessary to help individuals reach their optimal health and wellness through the power of nutrition and proper lifestyle.
