Kevin Cartwright MD was born and raised in southeast Virginia which is also where he completed his undergraduate and graduate education. He attended Virginia Wesleyan University where he received a B.A. in Biology (2003). He then went to Eastern Virginia Medical School where he obtained a M.S. in Biomedical Science (2004) and then completed medical school for his MD (2008). Upon completion of medical school, he moved here to New Orleans for Internal Medicine Residency at Tulane University School of Medicine (2008-2011). In 2011, he started his fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his training in 2014. He was one of the 2 Chief Fellows his last year in training and was asked to stay on as staff after graduating. In July of 2014, Dr. Cartwright joined the Tulane University Heart and Vascular Institute as a Noninvasive Cardiologist where he specializes in cardiac imaging (primarily echocardiography, stress testing and nuclear cardiology) and patient care (inpatient and outpatient). Within Cardiology, Dr. Cartwright has many interest which include exercise and sports cardiology, coronary artery disease, structural heart disease and heart failure. During the time of his training Dr. Cartwright got to see New Orleans rebuild after Katrina and aid many patient’s in the Charity Healthcare System get treatment for many medical conditions that had gone neglected since the displacement and loss caused by Hurricane Katrina. Also, along the way he met his wife who is a native New Orleanian and is now thankfully tied to this great city for the rest of his life.
