Dr. Moehlen was born in New York City and received his undergraduate degree from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. He earned his public health and medical degrees at Tulane University. He also completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Tulane. Thereafter, he completed a fellowship in hepatology at the University of Miami and returned to Tulane to complete a gastroenterology fellowship. Dr. Moehlen currently has a joint appointment at both Tulane University and the Veterans Affairs Administration as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine. His clinical research interests include portal hypertension, cirrhosis and viral hepatitis. He is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). He has published a number of peer-reviewed abstracts and papers. He is an active member in numerous professional societies including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), and American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).
