Ophthalmology - Research - Tulane Optometric Surgery Research Project

Mission

The mission of the Tulane Optometric Surgery Research Project (TOSRP), is to publicize the dangerous laws that have been enacted in three states, allowing untrained optometrists to perform optometric surgery on unsuspecting patients. These states are Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Louisiana, which passed these laws in 1998, 2011, and 2014, respectively.

Since Tulane University is located in Louisiana, we are most concerned with the public health of Louisiana. This website is part of a research project approved by the Tulane University Biomedical Investigational Review Board, entitled, [649758-1] Evaluation of optometrist performing ophthalmic surgical procedures in Louisiana.
