Triple Board - Pediatrics, Psychiatry & Child Psychiatry Residency ~ How to Apply

Applicants

Thank you for your interest in the Tulane Triple Board Residency Program.

We do currently offer a MS-4 Triple Board med student rotation. The students must apply through the AAMC VSLO and are required to have completed psychiatry and pediatric core clerkships as reflected on your transcript.  Please contact Lauren Teverbaugh, MD  lteverba@tulane.edu  if you are unable to use VSLO.

Ready to apply for residency? Applying to Tulane is simple; just follow the steps below:

The Application

Make sure that you fulfill all of our admission standards:

Applicants to Tulane must be graduates who will have successfully completed their medical school curriculum with distinction by June of current academic year.

We require successful passage on the USMLE Step 1/COMLEX Level 1 at the time of your application, and passage of USMLE Step 2/COMLEX Level 2 by the end of your medical school training.

There is no minimum board score for admission.

Unfortunately, we are no longer able to grant any visas through our residency program.

Admission to the residency program is solely through participation in the ERAS and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). No one is accepted for admission outside of the match. To apply, go to the ERAS site and complete the standard application. Make sure you are registered for the NRMP match. Applicants can choose to interview for both Triple Board and General Psychiatry or categorical Pediatrics. Arrangements will be made to do these interviews all in one trip to New Orleans, if scheduling allows.

The Interview

Interviews are by invitation only. If you are invited for an interview, you will have the option of choosing your interview date. We encourage you to interview early. Decisions on acceptance for an interview usually occur within two weeks of receiving your application.

All Tulane interviews are two day interviews, occurring on Thursday and Friday with an optional Pediatric social event on the Wednesday evening prior. The interview days begin on Thursday morning and are concluded by 4 PM on Friday. Most applicants choose to stay Friday and Saturday night in order to see and enjoy a little time in the Big Easy. Odds are, there will be a festival on the weekend you interview (there are 412 festivals in New Orleans per year), so there will be more than enough to do and enjoy if you choose to stay the weekend with us.

What to Expect on the Interview Day: Your two-day interview will include one-on-one interviews with at least two faculty members or chief residents from each of the three programs. You'll attend Child Psychiatry Grand Rounds, as well as tour various facilities including Tulane University Hospital and Clinic and Ochsner Hospital. Thursday evening includes an amazing dinner at a famous New Orleans restaurant—so make sure you come hungry! You'll have plenty of time to interact with not only our awesome Triple Board residents, but also categorical residents and chief residents from the three programs. It is sure to give you a great overview of our program here at Tulane.
