a post-baccalaureate program to enhance medical school admission credentials
Dear Prospective Students,
We appreciate your interest in the Anatomy Certification & Leadership Program (ACLP) at Tulane Medical School. This program is designed for students who are in the acceptance range at a US medical school but did not gain admissions for lack of some outstanding item in their application.
The Anatomy Certification & Leadership Program is designed for students who would like the opportunity to compare themselves with the first year medical school class at Tulane University School of Medicine. ACLP students will attend the medical school Gross, Developmental and Radiological Anatomy course and the Medical Histology course with the medical students. These ACLP students will fully participate in laboratories, case based learning opportunities, simulation center experiences and take the same examinations as the medical students. In addition, ACLP students will gain additional knowledge of the anatomy material through team-based-learning. While the fall course, "Gross, Developmental, and Radiological Anatomy" is a full time obligation, the Medical Histology course is taught as a portion of the systems based integrated curriculum of the medical school. Therefore, after completion of the Gross anatomy course, the ACLP student will be free to participate in other learning opportunities as they present themselves, while successfully completing the histology portion of the systems based course. Previous ACLP students have taken courses at other schools, worked, participated in research and completed self directed academics. The Medical Histology course is expected to be completed by April 1 of the spring semester.Read More for Application Details.
The program is intended only for enhancement of the medical school admission credentials. ACLP students are NOT medical students and will receive no medical school credit hours. ACLP students are NOT graduate students and will receive no graduate credit hours.
Our experience is that excellent performance in this program will clearly demonstrate to admission committees that the applicant has what it takes to do very well in medical school and will have a great chance to gain admission. There are no guarantees of admission to any medical school upon completion of this program. We have designed the program to give the ACLP student every opportunity to demonstrate to admission committees their suitability for medical school.
Within the last five years approximately 87% of the ACLP students were accepted to the Tulane School of Medicine. ACLP students who are accepted to Tulane will not be required to retake Gross, Development and Radiological Anatomy if it was successfully completed during the ACLP program. These students will serve as teaching assistants during the gross anatomy course and will receive an elective credit for Teaching Gross Anatomy. This credit is a pass fail credit with a written evaluation of the student's performance and leadership qualities student displayed as a teaching assistant. Tuition paid for ACLP cannot be credited in any part to Tulane Medical School tuition. Upon successful completion of the program in the Spring, students will be awarded a certificate of completion and upon request an additional letter of certification listing the courses taken, the numerical grades received, and the average medical student grade for each course. These will be sent to all specified medical schools as requested by the student.
