Dr. Muthusamy Kunnimalaiyaan (kunni) joined our Department of Surgery in October 2018 as an Assistant Professor-Research in the Division of Surgical Oncology. He obtained his PhD from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Delhi-India. After completing his post-doctoral training, he worked as Scientist-Senior Scientist at the Department of Surgery University of Wisconsin- Madison, WI on manipulation of signal transduction pathways in neuroendocrine cancer including thyroid cancer. Then he moved to Medical College of Wisconsin- Milwaukee as an Assistant Professor and continued to work on signaling pathways in pancreas and liver cancer. His laboratory at Tulane University studies several aspects of thyroid cancer, including the regulation of cytoplasmic nuclear translocation of proteins associated with aggressive and resistance behavior. He is also interested in biomarkers identification, miRNA signatures, and therapeutic targets for chemoresistance cancers.
