Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, the medical term for bile duct hardening is a progressive disease that may lead to liver damage and liver failure and should be treated at a facility that specializes in biliary system disorders and diseases.

Symptoms

  • Fatigue
  • Itching
  • Jaundice
  • An enlarged liver or spleen
  • Weight loss
  • Repeated episodes of cholangitis
Diagnosis

  • Abdominal CT
  • Endoscopic retrograde choloangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)
  • Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram  (PTC)
Treatment

Primary sclerosing cholangitis is a slow progressing disease; treatments are focused on reducing the progression of the symptom.
