Causes

A history of gallstones, chronic pancreatitis, abdominal injury, bile duct surgery, infection, or tumors of the bile duct or pancreas.

Symptoms

  • Abdominal pain
  • Jaundice
  • Pancreatitis
  • Itching
  • Light brown urine
  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Clay-colored stools
Diagnosis

  • Blood tests
  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Abdominal CT scan
  • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)
  • Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram (PTCA)
Treatment

  • Surgery
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
