Research

Lyme neuroborreliosis, caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi affects both the central and peripheral nervous systems (CNS, PNS). Dr. Parthasarathy's primary research interest is determining the pathogenic mechanisms underlying Lyme  neuroborreliosis and its morbid sequelae. Currently she is exploring the role of Fibroblast growth factor receptor in B. burgdorferi- mediated  neuroinflammation and neuropathology. Other areas of interest include CNS bacterial infections and their pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, apoptotic mechanisms in bacterial infections, and mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
