Neurology

The Tulane Department of Neurology, under the Tulane Center for Clinical Neurosciences, has a strong academic foundation and prides itself on providing excellent education to students, residents, and faculty. We have established a well-deserved reputation for excellence in neurological care. Our clinical programs continue to expand, with subspecialists in vascular neurology, epilepsy, movement disorders/dementia, neuromuscular, and neuroimmunology, sleep medicine, behavioral neurology, as well as neurocritical care.

The Tulane Neuroscience Telestroke service continues to expand, currently enjoying collaboration with twenty-five hospitals in Louisiana and Mississippi. The goal of our network is to improve neurological care in our region by partnering with community hospitals to offer neurology expertise, education, support and access to clinical trials. Our Comprehensive Stroke Center, one of only two in the state, and the only in Orleans Parish, has treated a record number of patients with large vessel occlusions due to collaborative efforts between EMS, our partner hospitals and our multidisciplinary stroke team.

The Neurology residency program welcomes five residents per year in order to take advantage of the increased educational opportunities afforded through the expansion of our clinical enterprise and the addition of new faculty. The training sites include East Jefferson General Hospital, University Medical Center of New Orleans, Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, and the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care system.

Our research program continues to expand with clinical trials as well as basic science/translational research focused on acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, neuroimaging, pain, spasticity, stem cell/ neural regeneration and cerebral aneurysm biology and therapy. The newly created Tulane Brain Institute, a multidisciplinary research enterprise encompassing researchers from the School of Medicine, Science and Engineering and Public Health and Tropical Medicine, offers exciting new research opportunities and mentorship.

These are exciting times for our growing program and we thank you for your interest.
