Emma NewtonCongratulations to this year’s recipient, Emma Newton.

Emma just completed her first year of medical school at Tulane University School of Medicine. She has been at Tulane for approximately 6 years and has received both a bachelor's and a master's degree in neuroscience. During undergrad, she ran for Tulane's DI track and field and cross country teams, and is still running competitively in New Orleans. In addition to her medical degree, she is also pursuing a master of public health with a focus on epidemiology. Currently, she is a member of the Machado lab at the Louisiana Cancer Research Center where she is working to isolate the role of the gene AXL in breast cancer.

The Annual Quoc C. Le, MD, PhD Memorial Award Summer Research Program for Medical Students Award was established by Dr. Alvin Wong in remembrance of his friend and colleague, the late Quoc Cuong Le, MD, PhD (11/21/64—5/1/96). Dr. Le received his BS from Tulane in 1986 and both his MD and PhD from Tulane School of Medicine in 1992. This award is intended to provide stipend support to T1 or other Tulane medical students interested in pursuing research in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, under the supervision of a departmental faculty member over the summer.
