Admission Requirements
Undergraduate certification and a baccalaureate degree in biology or related major is required for admission. For US applicants, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. However, applicants with slightly lower scores are encouraged to apply. For foreign applicants, a minimum TOEFL of 80 is required. Although applications will be reviewed year round, we only accept admission to our program in the Fall semester.
Applications for admission to the Master of Science degree program in Physiology are submitted through the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences Office. Completed application packages will be reviewed by the program admission committee as they are received and applicants will be admitted on a competitive basis. Therefore early submission of applications is highly encouraged. If accepted in our program, applicants are guaranteed a spot for 30 days from the date of the acceptance letter. Students must take 30 credit hours of course work during the fall and spring semesters and complete the requirements for the degree.

Academic Support Services Fee
The Academic Support Services Fee provides certain academic resources to all Tulane students. The fee enables students to access the University's computer services, data, voice, and Internet, including services provided by outside vendors. In addition, tutoring and counseling services, an online library, inter-loan services, and other support services, such as language and science laboratories, are covered by this fee.
Campus Health Fee
The Campus Health fee provides students with primary, psychiatric, and contraceptive care at the Campus Health Center. It also contributes to health education programs, drug/alcohol counseling, and the Tulane Emergency Medical Service. This fee is not a health insurance premium.
Student Activity Fee
The Student Activity fee entitles students to participate in or attend supported activities, readership of a weekly student newspaper, and admission to many events, movies, and lectures.
Reily Recreation Center Fee
Full-time students, except for the Schools of Medicine, Public Health and Tropical Medicine and Social Work will be assessed for membership to the Reily Recreation Center. School of Medicine, Public Health and Tropical Medicine and Social Work will be assessed for downtown TU Fit Center membership. Part-time students have the option to join the Recreation Center.
There is no financial aid available from the Department of Physiology or Tulane University for the Master’s Program. Information on other financial aid can be obtained from the university’s Office of Financial Aid https://financialaid.tulane.edu/graduate/medicine
If you are a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident, you may be eligible for federal and state student grants, work-study, and loans. To apply on-line for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA), just go to FAFSA On the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Tulane University policy requires that all students have health insurance coverage. This requirement can be met by subscribing to the Student Health Insurance Plan offered through the University, or by providing evidence of coverage under your parent’s or own hospitalization plan. What documents will I need to submit with my application?
The on-line application system will not allow an applicant to submit an application until it is complete. You may save a partially completed application and complete it later. To complete the application you must:
- fill in information in all parts of the application
- upload a statement of purpose
- enter the names and requested contact information of three people who will submit (on-line) letters of academic and/or professional recommendation.
What is expected in my statement of purpose?
Applicants should explain in detail why they are interested in the specific graduate program at Tulane, describe career goals, strengths and accomplishments relevant to the intended course of study. Generally statements of purpose should be no more than about 500 words.
How do my recommendation writers submit the letters?
The people you have selected to write a letter of recommendation will submit the letters electronically using the on-line application system. You will enter the name and an e-mail address of each recommendation provider. Once the information is saved an e-mail will be sent to the recommendation provider with instructions on how to proceed with the on-line recommendation.
