Pharmacology Masters program

MS Class of 2025

MS Program Overview

Our one-year post-baccalaureate program leading to a Master of Science in Pharmacology was designed for students interested in improving their credentials for admission to medical school, as well as those interested in achieving other professional goals, such as dental school, veterinary school, or a doctoral program in the basic or medical sciences.

Key objectives of this degree program are to train students in the principles underlying medical pharmacology, and to better prepare students for professional advancement in the medical sciences. Our Pharmacology faculty conduct research in several fields of medicine including cardiovascular biology, diabetes, endocrinology, mitochondrial biology, neurobiology and stem cell therapy.

Students in the M.S. program take a graduate version of the Medical Pharmacology course that contains the same learning objectives, course content and exam questions used in the 1st and 2nd year medical course. Our pharmacology MS graduate curriculum includes 32 credit hours of coursework to satisfy a minimum requirement used by those medical schools that focus on the most recent 32 hours of course work (the "32-hour rule") when assessing the GPA of past academic performance during their admissions process. All graduate courses are taught by full-time medical school faculty. Class size is maintained at less than 25 students to create a personal connection between students and faculty. Public service has become a prerequisite for admission to most US medical schools and is therefore a core requirement in our Masters program. The average graduate GPA after successful completion of our program over the past 8 years was 3.8, and over 78% matriculated into a medical, dental, or doctoral program of their choice.
