At our C.O.R.E. in the Tulane Internal Medicine Residency Program, we strive to uplift both our patients and our residents by fostering an environment where every individual is respected, empowered, and provided with equal opportunities to lead, grow, and thrive.
The C.O.R.E. Committee—which stands for Community, Opportunity, Respect, and Empowerment—is a resident-run interest group with a mission to promote service to medically underserved and marginalized communities. We aim to expand access to medical resources while cultivating a residency culture grounded in compassion, inclusivity, and equity. Residents involved in C.O.R.E. develop and lead program initiatives across four key domains:
- Community Outreach & Mentorship
- Community and Residency Health Resources
- Social Disparities Education & Curriculum
- Resident Wellness
Since its inception in Fall 2024, C.O.R.E. has made meaningful contributions to both our residency program and the greater New Orleans community. Current initiatives include (but are certainly not limited to):
- Integrating patients with complex healthcare needs from TUSOM student-run clinics into Tulane UMC resident continuity clinics to improve access to subspecialty care
- Adapting community resource guides into Epic dot-phrases to streamline patient support
- Collaborating with curriculum chiefs to develop a longitudinal social disparities curriculum for resident didactics
If you are seeking a residency program that values personal and academic growth while remaining deeply rooted in community service and social accountability, you’ll find a home here at Tulane. Our residents and faculty share a deep sense of social responsibility and are committed to expanding healthcare access, advocating for marginalized communities, and supporting one another’s well-being.
Inclusivity, compassion, and empowerment are essential to how we practice medicine at Tulane. We would love to have you join us at Tulane and in the C.O.R.E. committee to become a part of something meaningful!
