Center for Health Outcomes, Implementation, and Community-Engaged Science

Welcome to CHOICES

Who We Are

With generous support from the Jack Aron Chair in Primary Care Medicine, the Center for Health Outcomes, Implementation & Community Engaged Science (CHOICES) is under the direction of Dr. M. Krousel-Wood.  The Center’s vision is to improve health outcomes and increase access and quality of primary and preventive healthcare in Louisiana, the Gulf South, and beyond. CHOICES is accomplishing its goals by conducting investigator-initiated, interdisciplinary, community-engaged, extramurally funded clinical, translational, and population-based research; implementing evidence-based practices in real world practice, broadly disseminating research findings; and fostering the career development of the next generation of scientific leaders committed to improving health.

What We Do

Our work supports increasing knowledge and awareness of primary care and preventive medicine research for improving health of our people in Louisiana and neighboring Gulf South areas by addressing pressing clinical and public health problems. With funding from the National Institutes of Health and focus on preventing chronic diseases with associated morbidity and mortality, CHOICES faculty are leading ongoing clinical investigations and trials designed to improve the following: medication adherence and blood pressure control in adults with uncontrolled hypertension, uptake of evidence-based guidelines for weight management among adults living with obesity, sleep and cardiometabolic health among adults with diabetes, and bone health with insights gained from large national cohort studies on osteoporosis.
