Program Director's Message

Alexandra Leigh

Welcome to the Tulane Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship!

We are so glad you are here!  Thank you for your interest in our program.  Tulane's Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship is the first HPM program accredited in the state of Louisiana, and we bring together a diverse group of palliative medicine faculty who have trained across the country.  Teaching is our passion!  We provide inpatient and outpatient palliative care services at University Medical Center, a safety-net hospital and Level 1 trauma center in downtown New Orleans, and at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, which also includes and inpatient hospice facility.  We partner with Heart of Hospice and Manning Children's Hospital to provide the full range of required experiences for HPM fellows. Our program is unique in combining a classical, ACGME-approved palliative curriculum with integrative and alternative medicine, narrative medicine, resilience training, prison advocacy, and the opportunity for international palliative rotations in partnership with Harvard and UCSF.  Though our fellowship is challenging, we pride ourselves on maintaining a healthy work-life balance so that you can grow, reflect, and explore our community.  We are situated in one of the most unique cities in the world and invite you to come experience our local cuisine, rich musical heritage and vibrant art scene. Venez visiter la Nouvelle-Orléans!

I am eager to discuss our exceptional team and progressive, innovative curriculum with all interested applicants.
