Welcome to the Tulane School of Medicine Radiation Oncology Department. Our mission is to provide compassionate, state-of-the-art patient care, driven by access to clinical trials, as we ready to train the next generation of radiation oncology leaders. Our outstanding faculty and staff, combined with an extensive collection of advanced technology, gives patients access here in New Orleans to nearly every treatment option available, anywhere. The broad range of radiation treatments available include intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), unsealed anti-cancer radiopharmaceuticals, high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy, total body irradiation, total skin electron irradiation and cone-based single and fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) to the brain and spine. We offer breath-hold-irradiation to patients with left-sided breast cancers, which allows us to better avoid the heart. And more and more, we are using highly focused stereotactic body radiotherapy to obliterate tumors throughout the body, while sparing surrounding tissues.
Our cancer center excels by offering patients the advantage of a multidisciplinary team-approach. We in radiation are joined by expert gastrointestinal oncologic surgeons, breast oncology surgeons, hematologists, breast medical oncologists, lung medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, otolaryngology oncologic surgeons, hepatologists, urologic medical oncologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologist, urological oncologic surgeons, pathologists, oncology nurses, survivorship experts, social workers, oncology-certified nutritionists, psychologists and others who all strive to meet the needs of each individual patient to create a personalized treatment plan.
