Academic Programs
The Department of Surgery offers accredited residencies in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Students rotate through the department during their General Surgery Clerkship. Fourth-year students may participate in our Honors Surgery course as well as Acting Internships.
Students may pursue a Master of Science in Clinical Research Methods with a concentration in pre-surgical training through the Department of Surgery.

Surgery Divisions
Our Abdominal Transplant Division of Tulane Transplant Institute is one of the region’s leading programs for kidney, liver, and pancreas transplants. Together, we’re committed to giving patients a second chance at life.
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Tulane provides advanced, high-quality care in adult heart and lung surgery while training future surgeons and expanding innovative clinical programs across the New Orleans region.
The Division of General, Endocrine & Oncological Surgery provides comprehensive surgical care across a wide range of specialties, including general, colorectal, endocrine, oncological, and breast surgery. Our expert team is committed to excellence in patient care, education, and research.
The Division of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery (MIS) is to ensure superior quality of patient care services; promoting clinical excellence; and clinical and basic research; fostering academic and professional growth of faculty; developing future physicians through student, resident and fellowship training and continuing medical education programs in all minimally invasive subspecialties.
Tulane University School of Medicine’s Division of Trauma, Acute Care, and Critical Care Surgery provides expert, life-saving care to some of the most critically ill and injured patients in the region. Led by Dr. Sharven Taghavi, the division is committed to advancing trauma and surgical critical care through clinical excellence, education, and research.
