The Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory provides 24/7 support for multiple solid organ transplant programs including kidney, liver, pancreas, and heart. The lab also supports allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation and performs donor typing for LOPA. This involves typing individuals' genes within the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) or "HLA" region to determine the level of phenotypic and/or genetic HLA identity between individuals. Testing also includes HLA antibody identification and crossmatching between recipient sera and donor lymphocytes. The lab provides HLA typing for disease association and next-generation sequencing (NGS) for non-transplant reasons, including research. The HLA Lab has been in operation since the 1970s.
