Neurology
Chair's Welcome
The Department of Neurology at Tulane University School of Medicine is passionate about preserving and improving neurological health. Our mission is to teach, to innovate, and to care. Our vision is to create joy in academic neurology.
Neurology is proud to have been presented the “Best Department Award” by the Tulane University Medical Students’ Owl Club (to teach). In partnership with the Tulane Department of Translational Neurosciences, the Tulane Department of Pharmacology, and the Tulane Innovation Institute, we are creating a robust and novel experimental therapeutics pipeline, to address a multitude of unsolved neurological problems. As an example, we are developing a Mediterranean diet driven probiotic capsule for enhancing gut brain function (to innovate). The Tulane Healthy Brain Aging Initiative seeks to prevent and reduce the burden of cognitive decline and dementia, through prevention, treatment, support, and research (changing the paradigm of neurology, from palliation to prevention). We provide comprehensive stroke services at East Jefferson General Hospital, University Medical Center New Orleans, in addition to tele stroke services to dozens of regional hospitals (to care). We integrate neurology and neurosurgery teaching, innovation, and patient care services under the administrative umbrella of the Tulane Center for Clinical Neurosciences.
In closing, I hope for Tulane Neurology to be a kind and welcoming department, where diverse approaches are encouraged; a dedicated place of learning; and a safe place to deliver and receive highly satisfying care of the best quality. And should we innovate medicine in the course of that work, it would be icing on the cake!
