If you have a medical condition that requires general surgery, you'll find the ideal combination of expertise and technology at Tulane. We offer the latest minimally invasive options - including robotic surgery - that may reduce pain, complications, and recovery time. Out robotic surgeons have more than a decade's experience using the da Vinci Surgical System.
Why should patients consider robotic surgery as part of their treatment plan?
- Small incisions with minimal scarring are the norm as opposed to large incisions
- Nearly all patients have a reduced amount of post-operative pain compared to traditional procedures
- Patients require shorter hospital stays, with fewer post-operative complications
- Robotic surgery closes the time gap between surgery and post operative therapies
The da Vinci Surgical System consists of an ergonomically designed surgeon's console, a patient-side cart with four interactive robotic arms and a high-performance camera which shows the exact view of the area that is being operated upon. A surgeon's hand movements are scaled, filtered, and seamlessly translated into precise movements.
- The da Vinci Surgical System enables Tulane's surgeons to perform - through tiny incisions - complex surgeries thanks to an increased range of motion and dexterity, advancing their technique and enhancing their capability.
- The surgeon is seated at a console a few feet away from the patient, and the system replicates the surgeon's movements in real time while providing enhanced vision of the surgical site, through the robot's high-resolution 3-D view.
