We are extremely proud of the deep and diverse educational opportunities offered by the hospitals affiliated with our surgery residency program. Tulane surgery residents are exposed to a rich academic environment which is designed to foster careers as modern clinical investigators, teachers, and practitioners of the medical arts and sciences. In conjunction with our affiliated training institutions, our goal is to provide an excellent basis for postgraduate education by offering comprehensive clinical and research programs, didactics, and supervision in the care of our patients.
In the general surgery residency at Tulane, residents develop skills which equip them for a lifetime of learning, professional advancement, and quality patient outcomes. All hospitals with required rotations are located a short distance from each other within the New Orleans area, and residents are able to return to the main downtown campus twice weekly for a cohesive schedule of academic conferences. Intern rotations are generally restricted to our main teaching hospitals in the downtown medical district corridor (University Medical Center, and Veterans Administration Medical Center) within a 4-block area.
