Tulane Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children

Lakeside delivers babies: more than 90,000 since opening in 1964. Today, this 119 bed hospital continues to emphasize women's health services. It is home to the Tulane Breast Health Center, a location of Tulane Aesthetic Surgery, and a Tulane Surgery Clinic. In 2007, Tulane and Lakeside combined had more than 4,000 surgical admits. Surgical residents train here throughout their postgraduate work.

Children's Hospital

The Crippled Children's Hospital opened in 1955 to rehabilitate children of the polio epidemic and other physical handicaps. Renamed in 1976, not-for-profit Children's Hospital is Louisiana's only full-service hospital exclusively for children. The 201 bed hospital has more than 1700 surgical admissions yearly. Residents spend four months here, during their third postgraduate year, and also see patients here during their plastic surgery rotations.

Touro Infirmary Hospital

Located in the beautiful Garden District in uptown New Orleans, Touro Infirmary is New Orleans only community based, not-for-profit, faith-based hospital. Since 1852, Touro has been at the forefront of medical excellence. In 1923, Touro was one of only 15 hospitals in the country approved to use insulin to treat diabetes. Today, the Touro Rehabilitation Center is one of the premier programs in the country. Touro sees more than 3400 surgical patients annually. Surgery residents rotate through Touro, during their third year for general and thoracic surgery.

East Jefferson Medical Center

Publicly owned and not-for-profit, East Jefferson has grown to 450 beds and a medical staff of nearly 700, since opening in 1971. As a community service district hospital, it serves the burgeoning population of the east bank of Jefferson Parish. Primary services include cardiovascular, rehabilitative, oncology, and woman & child care. In 2007, East Jeff had more than 6800 surgical admissions. Residents are on service here during their third and fifth years of training.

Ochsner Hospital

Includes a 442-bed tertiary care hospital dedicated to patient care, education and research. Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic was founded under the leadership of Dr. Alton Ochsner, Sr., former Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Tulane University School of Medicine and several Tulane Faculty. Since its origin the Ochsner Hospital and Clinic has had congruent interests and cooperative programs with Tulane. Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic has a distinguished history of excellence and teaching and provides highly tertiary services as well as primary surgical care. A close relationship exists between the Department of Surgery at Ochsner and the Department of Surgery at Tulane. For nearly 60 years Ochsner has cared for residents in the greater New Orleans communities. The Ochsner main campus, which includes the hospital and clinic, are located in Jefferson Parish, but Ochsner Clinic Foundation (OCF) has 27 clinics throughout the region.

Our Lady of the Lake
Baton Rouge, LA

Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center is the dominant institution in healthcare in the Greater Baton Rouge area. It is also the largest private medical center in Louisiana, with 763 licensed beds. Opened in 1923, the Lake has grown from its modest beginning to a major player in healthcare, with an outreach spanning geographical and political boundaries. In a given year, Our Lady of the Lake treats approximately 25,000 patients in the hospital, and serves about 350,000 persons through outpatient locations with the assistance of almost 900 physicians and 3,000 staff members.
