Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Goals of the training program are designed to ensure that each trainee, upon completion of his or her training, has superb knowledge in research methods, ample proficiency in statistics, and a portfolio of accomplishments to launch a research career.  The program emphasizes strong mentor-trainee relationships to facilitate these goals. Training plans can also be tailored to include PhD clinical supervision for face-to-face client hours to count towards clinical state licensure.

The program provides core didactic and training activities focused on learning to develop realistic career timelines and to generate testable and fundable hypotheses that represent innovative ideas. The philosophical, the practical, and the clinically-relevant ideally mix together to inform the next incremental questions that need to be answered.  Writing skills are emphasized with timetables for production of manuscripts and grant applications.  Learning how to do research is important, but we believe that learning how to write in an organized and concise fashion is a key underlying skill for focused thinking.  Seminars expose trainees to other disciplines and visiting investigators.  Our department has particular strengths in stress or trauma from the infant/preschool period through adulthood, neurobiology, forensics, psychotherapy development, and other innovations in interventions.  Our unique Journal Club teaches fellows to critically and rapidly evaluate large bodies of literature with equipoise of genuine uncertainty.  Fellows will work with existing datasets and conduct original data collection.  Beyond the core training, each fellow will individualize their didactic and research activities to their specific needs.

Start date is individualized for the fall of each year.
