Welcome to the Department of Medical Education in Psychiatry.
The Tulane Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences recognizes the important of psychiatric education to the undergraduate medical school curriculum. Through our preclinical and clinical education, our aim is to prepare medical students to understand the full range of mental health issues, from recognizing and treating mild psychiatric conditions in a primary care setting, to identifying more severe psychiatric pathology. An additional goal of ours is to help our student doctors learn to care for patients in a comprehensive manner, with a biopsychosocial approach, no matter what the illness, and no matter what residency they choose to pursue. This is the fundamental approach of psychiatrists within our department, and we look to bring this philosophy to the students at Tulane University School of Medicine.
