A message from our Chair, Dr. Mary T. Killackey:
Welcome to the Department of Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine! As one of the oldest surgical departments in the country, we pride ourselves on the historical contributions that have come out of our department. The remarkable advances in surgery which were discovered and tested here set the groundwork for an environment that embraces innovation and leads to the cutting edge surgery performed today. Dedication to education, research and caring for an underserved community sets us apart from other surgery programs and allows for a unique training experience. We are proud of our collaborative relationships with other training programs at the new Charity Hospital-University Medical Center and the brand new Veteran's Administration Hospital. After Katrina, we developed close partnerships with surgeons practicing at large community hospitals, allowing our residents today to experience a multitude of different learning environments.
Above all else, we value authenticity, integrity and an environment of professionalism to shape the future surgeon leaders of tomorrow.
