Olan Jackson-Weaver Receives $1.6M Grant to Study Trauma-Induced Blood Loss
Olan Jackson-Weaver, assistant professor of surgery and adjunct professor of physiology at Tulane University School of Medicine, has been awarded a $1.6 million grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences at the NIH to investigate why some trauma patients experience worse outcomes than others. His research will focus on a life-threatening complication known as the “coagulopathy of trauma,” a condition where the body’s ability to clot blood is impaired, affecting over a quarter of trauma patients and significantly increasing their risk of death.
