Tulane Diabetes Research Program

Mission

The mission of the Tulane Diabetes Research Program is to provide a collaborative research community and infrastructure to Tulane investigators studying the molecular bases and therapeutic avenues for diabetes mellitus, obesity and their complications. The Tulane Diabetes Research Program is an intercampus and interdepartmental research program that brings together researchers from the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health and tropical Medicine. The expertise of our researchers spans from the molecular standpoint to the population level. It includes the integrated physiology of glucose homeostasis, central nervous system regulation of energy homeostasis, islet biology and transplantation, insulin action and resistance as well as vascular biology and hypertension. The research opportunities range from basic and translational laboratory studies to clinical and genetic studies in humans as well as epidemiology. Our program includes researchers from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans to foster collaborative research in diabetes through seminars, retreats and multiple investigators grant applications.

Faculty

The expertise of our faculty spans from the molecular standpoint to the population level. It includes integrated physiology of glucose homeostasis, central nervous system regulation of energy homeostasis, islet biology and transplantation, insulin action and resistance as well as vascular biology and hypertension and clinical trials of novel antidiabetic drugs. The research opportunities range from basic and translational laboratory studies to genetic studies and clinical trials in patients as well as bioinformatics.
