His pioneering work in atrial fibrillation, cardiac imaging, and translational research has transformed the field and established new standards of care used around the world. Dr. Jose Wiley is a nationally recognized interventional cardiologist, physician-scientist, and educator who leads Tulane's clinical cardiology programs. A Tulane-trained cardiologist, he returned to New Orleans after an accomplished career that included academic leadership, military service as a U.S. Army physician, and nationally recognized contributions to cardiovascular research and endovascular medicine. His commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, education, and compassionate patient care continues to strengthen Tulane's growing regional and national impact.
Jamil Borgi, MD

An internationally recognized cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Borgi specializes in advanced heart and lung transplantation, ventricular assist devices, mechanical circulatory support, complex valve repair, and aortic reconstruction. Throughout his career, he has helped build and expand leading transplant and advanced heart failure programs while pioneering innovative surgical procedures around the world. His expertise, commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, and dedication to improving outcomes for patients with the most complex cardiovascular conditions are helping shape the future of cardiothoracic surgery at Tulane.

An internationally recognized physician-scientist, Dr. Thannickal provides strategic leadership for the Institute's research and academic mission. His NIH-funded work in cellular aging, tissue repair, regenerative medicine, and translational science has resulted in more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and has helped advance new therapeutic approaches for complex diseases. A dedicated mentor and collaborative leader, he is committed to fostering scientific discovery, supporting the next generation of investigators, and strengthening TUHVI's culture of innovation and academic excellence.
