Pain management typically requires consultation by a team, including a pain management physician, a gastroenterologist, and a surgeon.

In cases where oral pain medications are not adequate, treatment options may include:

  • Stenting - Inflammation and scarring from chronic pancreatitis can cause narrowing of the pancreatic duct, resulting in blockage of pancreatic secretions and irritation and pain.  Placing a stent in the duct can help to open the narrowed area, preventing or reducing pain.
