Inbox Check: Are You Ready for Hurricane Season?

Hurricane season is here, and now’s the time to double-check your emergency alert settings and evacuation plans. The School of Medicine and university officials use multiple systems to keep you informed—make sure you’re connected before the next storm strikes.

Personal Evacuation Plans

The Tulane Office of Emergency Preparedness & Response has established a policy to guide the university's response to severe weather events, including hurricanes that may require either evacuation or sheltering in place. View the policy here. Everyone is required to submit their personal evacuation plan in Gibson.

Only designated essential personnel can shelter in Tulane buildings during a hurricane.

Email:

Tulane School of Medicine will send emergency information to faculty, staff, and students through Tulane.edu emails. Please ensure you haven’t opted out of emails sent via the listserv or the Emma email system. If you’re not receiving the weekly Inside Tulane Medicine newsletter on Mondays, you may have opted out of Emma at some point, which means you’re missing other important emails from SoM administration. Go here to opt back in.

TU Alerts:

Tulane will send critical voice, email, and text messages to students, faculty, and staff at on-file telephone numbers and e-mail addresses in an emergency or impending threat. If you have downloaded the Everbridge app, you will also receive a notification from the app. Students, faculty, and staff are automatically enrolled as recipients of TU Alerts through Everbridge. To ensure you receive TU Alerts, please ensure your contact information is current in Gibson. Here’s more information about how to update your info. *You will NOT receive text alerts if your cell phone is listed in the home phone field.

Everbridge App:

Everbridge is the university's emergency mass communications system and campus safety app. By downloading the Everbridge app, you will not only be able to receive TU Alerts directly to the app but also utilize several safety features. Click here for more information

ALERTUS Notifications

ALERTUS allows the University to send an alert that captures your computer screen with the text of the alert. Users must then acknowledge the alert before returning to their computers. For more information about how to sign up, click here.
