Monitoring Weather Conditions - Flood Watch in Effect

This message was shared with the SOM community on Wednesday, July 16, 2025:

We are closely monitoring the weather forecast, which calls for the potential of heavy rainfall and localized flooding over the next few days. Currently, we do not anticipate any disruption to School of Medicine operations. Should that change, we will notify you via your Tulane.edu email.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for New Orleans and the surrounding metro area through Saturday, July 19, at 1 a.m. Forecasts predict rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts up to 10 inches possible, particularly near and south of the I-10 corridor.

Please use caution while traveling, especially near the Hutchinson Building. LaSalle Street is prone to flooding, and the LaSalle entrance may be blocked by flood boards.

As of now:

  • All classes will proceed as scheduled
  • Clinics will maintain regular hours
  • All hospital facilities remain on normal operations

Please continue to monitor your Tulane.edu email and the School of Medicine website for updates.

We also encourage all students, faculty, and staff to sign up for NOLA Ready emergency alerts for real-time local updates on weather and other emergencies.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to safety.
