Dr. Gregory W. Stewart
Medical Director, NFL Player Care Foundation's Healthy Body and Mind Screening Program

Dr. Gregory W. Stewart is the Chief of the Section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the W. Kennon McWilliams Professor in Sports Medicine at Tulane University. He is a nationally recognized expert in non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in adults. He also specializes in disability prevention, rehabilitative medicine, sports medicine, and has a particular interest in sports concussion. Dr. Stewart is the director of the Sports Concussion Management Program and team physician at Tulane University. He has served as team physician for professional, collegiate and high school teams for over twenty five years.

Dr. Stewart is active in professional associations in sports medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation. His contributions to the sports medicine community include director of education for the Louisiana Sports Medicine Society, served on the Sports Medicine Committee of the Louisiana State Medical Society, and Chairman of the Louisiana High School Athletics Association Sports Medicine Advisory Board. He was a major contributor to the successful passage of the Louisiana Youth Concussion Act. He received funding from the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research of the U.S. Department of Education to examine the effects of mild traumatic brain injury in high school football athletes.

Dr. Stewart, an associate professor of clinical Orthopaedics at Tulane University School of Medicine, earned a bachelor’s degree from Houston Baptist University in 1982 and a medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in 1986. He completed an internship and residency at Louisiana State University/Charity Hospital. Dr. Stewart is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

 

Eric Beverly
Director of Operations
Professional Sports Clinical Programs

Eric Beverly serves as Director of Operations-Professional Sports Clinical Programs at Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine (TISM). Eric is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and has a background in athletic administration. Prior to his time at Tulane, Eric served as Assistant Athletics Director for Student Services at The University of Texas at Austin from 2012 - 2017, where his responsibilities included oversight of the academic support staff and student services program for football. Before arriving at Texas, Beverly spent five years at the University of Georgia as coordinator of academics for football and academic counselor for soccer. He was responsible for the daily oversight and communication with regard to academic support and performance for student-athletes. Eric played 10 years in the National Football League, playing both offensive line and tight end. He began his professional career as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions. After spending seven seasons in Detroit, he joined the Atlanta Falcons before retiring in 2007.  Eric received his Bachelor's in Business Administration from Miami University (Ohio) in 1997. He and his wife, Danielle, have one daughter.

 

Jenna Rosen, Psy.D.
Director of Mental Health & Follow-Up Care

Jenna Rosen, Psy.D. will serve former Players referred from The Trust to Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine (TISM) as TISM’s Director of Mental Health and Follow Up Care. Dr. Rosen is a licensed clinical psychologist at TISM and will oversee the emotional wellness and follow up components of the Tulane Brain and Body Assessment Program. She has experience providing comprehensive clinical assessments, treatment planning and coordination, and transition and family counseling to athletes and their families. Dr. Rosen specializes in individual, couples, and family psychotherapy for a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, parenting, life transitions, and goal achievement.

Dr. Rosen is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Tulane University School of Medicine. She earned a bachelor's degree from Tulane University, a master’s degree in School Psychology and a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Pace University in New York City. Dr. Rosen completed an internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine and an honorary mentorship in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the New Orleans-Birmingham Psychoanalytic Center.

 

Will Keller, BS, ATC, LAT
Lead Care Manager

Will is an athletic trainer who will serve as the lead care managers to assist former players with implementing their Brain and Body Health Plan. Will is a native of the New Orleans metro area and has been a certified athletic trainer since 2007. He is a graduate of Nicholls State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training. After graduation he served as an athletic trainer and provided on-site and year round care of all of Delgado's Community College, including their nationally ranked baseball program. He joined Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine team in August 2008 where he not only worked in the high school outreach program but also lead the Human Performance Lab and Reily Aquatic Therapy Center renovation projects at Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine. He currently organizes and coordinates the annual comprehensive pre-participation physical evaluation for local high school athletes which is supported by Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine and Tulane University School of Medicine. Will is also beginning his second term serving as the Education Director of the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association.

 

Melinda McDonell, MS, ATC, LAT
Care Manager

Melinda (Mindy) McDonell will serve as one of the care managers who will assist former players who are referred from The Trust to Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine with their access to necessary medical services during their Brain and Body Assessment. Mindy is from Washington State and has been a certified athletic trainer since 1986. Mindy earned her Masters of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Arizona in 1988. She graduated from Oregon State University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. Mindy joined the Tulane University Athletic Training Staff in November 2012 where she provided athletic training services to the Tulane athletic teams. She served as an assistant athletic trainer at Washington State University from 1990-2001. Mindy taught from 2011 to 2012 at the University of Idaho in the Department of Health and Safety and also from 2007 to 2011 in the Health and Kinesiology Department at Purdue University.

 

Cary Berthelot, MA, ATC, LAT
Care Manager

Cary Berthelot is a certified trainer who brings nearly twenty years of experience to her position as Care Manager for The Trust at the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine, primarily assisting former players and providing services with Brain and Body Assessment. She received both her Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology in 1997 and Master of Arts in Health and Kinesiology in 1999 from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. Cary also received an Associate of Arts from Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri, where she was an Academic All-American in Softball. She most recently served as the Program Director for the Athletic Training Education Program at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and prior to that she served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer at Southeastern, where she taught in the Department of Kinesiology for 12 years. In 2011, she was named the Outstanding Collegiate Athletic Trainer by the Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association. Cary has served on the Executive Boards of both the Louisiana Athletic Trainers' Association (LATA) and Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association and began her term as President-Elect for LATA in June 2016.
