Program Description
The annual School of Medicine's Teaching Scholars Education Day & Award Ceremony was held on Monday, April 17, 2017. At this event, the Dean of the School of Medicine recognized the innovative scholarly accomplishments of a master medical educator, Kerstin Honer zu Bentrup, who was inducted into the Society of Teaching Scholars at Tulane School of Medicine. In addition, a poster presentation session highlighted the instructional innovations and educational research of faculty, staff, residents and students from the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
Teaching Scholar Award
The 2017 Teaching Scholar Award was presented to Dr. Kerstin Honer zu Bentrup by Dean Hamm. Dr. Honer zu Bentrup is an Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine, serves as Course Director for the Introduction to Infectious Disease course, is Program Director for the MS in Microbiology/Immunology, and is the Manager of the Microbiology Imaging Facility, Department of Microbiology & Immunology.
The objectives of Education Day are:
- To promote the scholarship of teaching at Tulane University Health Sciences Center.
- To provide faculty, fellows, residents, staff, and students in the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine the opportunity to present new and innovative work in health sciences education.
- To honor the recipient of the School of Medicine's 2017 Teaching Scholar Award.
