The New Orleans VA Medical Center serves nearly 70,000 veterans across a region stretching from western Mississippi to eastern Texas. This modern facility offers both inpatient and outpatient mental health services, as well as specialized programs in geriatric psychiatry, PTSD treatment, group therapy, homeless services, substance use treatment, home-based care for chronic mental illness (Mental Health Intensive Case Management / MHICM), and compensated work therapy.

Tulane University Behavioral Health Clinic (TUBC)

Located on the fifth floor of the former Tulane Medical Center, Tulane University Behavioral Health Clinic serves the greater New Orleans area under the LCMC Health system. Following the closure of Tulane Medical Center in January 2024, academic programs transitioned to East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie. PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents spend clinic time at TUBC, primarily managing medication referrals. Residents may also take on psychotherapy cases at their own initiative, allowing for a tailored outpatient training experience.

East Jefferson General Hospital ("EJ")

Opened in 1971, East Jefferson General Hospital serves the Metairie and Jefferson Parish community with a broad range of specialties. Residents rotate here in their PGY-2 year on the Consult-Liaison Psychiatry service. Working in pairs, they gain experience managing consults for delirium, capacity evaluations, diagnostic clarification, medication recommendations, and psychiatric emergencies on the medicine floors.

St. Charles Parish Hospital - Ochsner Health ("St. Charles”)

St. Charles Parish Hospital, part of the Ochsner Health system, features both an inpatient General Psychiatry unit and a 10-bed Med-Psych unit, the only one of its kind in Louisiana, offering a unique training experience unmatched by other residency programs in the region. This rotation also provides valuable exposure to practicing psychiatry in a community hospital setting, distinct from the urban hospitals near New Orleans’ city center. Residents also have the opportunity to participate in ketamine therapy for patients. 

PGY-2 residents rotate on both the General Psychiatry and Med-Psych units. Optional internal moonlighting is available to PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents on weekends.
