Pink Bra Run benefits breast cancer research at Tulane

The Pink Bra Run is one of the best running events of the year, offering a flat course, gorgeous views of the Mississippi River, and a big celebration with hundreds of people – even dogs -decked out in festive shades of pink.

What also makes the Pink Bra Run great in our eyes is how this annual event raises money for Tulane Cancer Center’s Breast Cancer Research Fund. Organizer Krewe de Pink has raised more than $197,500 since 2016 to help support breast cancer researchers like Bridgette Collins-Burow, MD, PhD; and Matthew Burow, PhD; both associate professors of medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine.

“We are grateful for the dedication and effort of Krewe de Pink in holding the Pink Bra Run each year to raise awareness about breast cancer and in support of breast cancer research,” said Matthew Burow. “The krewe’s support has led to important research discoveries from our lab group as well as training of our next generation of breast cancer researchers and physicians.”

This year’s Pink Bra Run, happening Saturday, May 6, offers another option for participants. Along with the traditional 5K walk/run along the levee, cyclists can opt to complete a 9-mile bike ride. The Pink Bra Ride will take cyclists on a 9-mile scenic tour from the Algiers Ferry landing down the levee bike path, through Federal City and Algiers Point, then through Old Gretna to the Pink Bra Runners’ Finish Line Celebration across from the Rivershack, 714 1st St., in Gretna. The 5K walk/run begins and ends in Old Gretna.

After the race, stick around for food, beer, refreshments, music, and dancing. There’s also an awards ceremony for the top finishers and the Best Decorated Bra. The first 100 finishers will receive Pink Bra Run 2023 medals.

Registration is open now, and participants can save money by signing up before race day. Buy tickets here and visit krewedepink.org to learn more.
