Stroke Outreach Program Saves Lives When Seconds Matter
Tulane Center for Clinical Neurosciences is expanding its commitment to stroke prevention and treatment with the launch of the Stroke Outreach Program. Led by Kendrick Johnson, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Tulane University School of Medicine, and Director of the Stroke Outreach Program, this initiative was made possible by a grant from Penumbra, allowing for the addition of a Stroke Outreach Nurse Specialist to the team.
This program is designed to educate and empower the New Orleans community, ensuring that more people recognize the warning signs of a stroke and know how to respond. Through local events, educational sessions, and partnerships, Tulane aims to raise awareness about stroke prevention, recognition, and treatment—giving individuals the tools to act F.A.S.T. when every second counts.
Tulane Medicine at East Jefferson General Hospital is home to a Comprehensive Stroke Center, the highest level of stroke care available. Patients experiencing a stroke receive expert, rapid-response treatment from a team dedicated to improving outcomes.
Every moment matters when it comes to stroke. By increasing awareness and expanding access to critical information, Tulane’s Stroke Outreach Program is helping to save lives and build a healthier community.
