Brian Eisner, MD, named Chair of Urology at Tulane University School of Medicine
An award-winning surgeon, prolific researcher, and internationally sought-after speaker, Brian Eisner, MD, will be the next Chair of Urology at Tulane University School of Medicine. Currently Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Kidney Stone Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Eisner is widely recognized as a leader in endourology and kidney stone disease. He brings to Tulane a distinguished track record of innovation in clinical practice, a passion for teaching, and a strong presence in academic communities. He will succeed longtime Chair Dr. Raju Thomas.
“I am honored and humbled by this incredible opportunity to lead the Department of Urology at Tulane University School of Medicine, and follow in the footsteps of Dr. Thomas,” said Eisner. “I look forward to advancing the clinical, research, and teaching missions of the medical school and its hospital partners, particularly LCMC and the VA, and serving the patients and population of the city of New Orleans, the state of Louisiana, the Gulf Coast region, and beyond.
Dr. Eisner graduated cum laude with a degree in biology from Harvard University and went on to earn research honors at the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his urology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship in endourology and stone disease at the University of California, San Francisco.
Over the course of his career, Eisner has been recognized with numerous teaching awards and research honors, and in 2022, he was named one of the top 100 Urology Social Media Influencers on Twitter. He has delivered more than 170 invited lectures and presentations across the globe.
A nationally recognized expert in kidney stone disease, Eisner served as director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Kidney Stone Program. He also led the Division of Urology at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Lee Hamm, MD, Senior Vice President and Dean of Tulane University School of Medicine. “His collaborative approach, commitment to education, and international reputation will strengthen our department and enhance its impact in New Orleans and beyond.”
Dr. Eisner is moving to New Orleans with his wife, Amy, and their three children. Leah, Micah, and Millie. He officially begins on August 18.
