Kailash Pandey, Phd, receives Lifetime Achievement Award at AHA Hypertension Scientific Sessions

Kailash N. Pandey, PhD, Professor and past Vice Chair of Medical Research in the Department of Physiology, received the Irvine Page & Alva Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's American Heart Association Hypertension Scientific Sessions. The award recognizes Pandey's outstanding contributions in the field of hypertension research, which have been recognized internationally.

Dr. Pandey has made major contributions towards the molecular/genetic mechanisms mediating blood pressure (BP). He has demonstrated that angiotensin II (Ang II), the pressure hormone, can be formed intracellularly. He also discovered that intracellular Ang II is released rather than renin. He then transitioned to pioneering studies of natriuretic peptides and their receptors, which lower blood pressure, and has become a world leader in this field.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is named in honor of Dr. Irvine Page and Alva Bradley, who played a prominent role in establishing the National Foundation for High Blood Pressure Research in 1945. The award was presented at the AHA Council on Hypertension meeting in Baltimore.
