Tulane medical students outscore the competition at 2025 SMArtBowl

Four medical students from Tulane University School of Medicine took home first place at the 2025 Physicians-in-Training SMArtBowl, a Jeopardy!-style medical trivia competition held during the Southern Medical Association’s (SMA) Annual Scientific Assembly in New Orleans.

The winning team, Ricardo Adrogue, Jered Davidson, Daniel Sirna, and Eli Tsakiris, outperformed teams from other southeastern medical schools to claim the top prize and a $2,000 team award. The Tulane team competed against the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM), and the University of South Alabama (USA) Whiddon College of Medicine.

“We were selected from a pool of teams to compete against other schools from across the region, and we were extremely proud to represent Tulane,” said Eli Tsakiris. “Bringing home first place was an incredible experience for all of us.”

The SMArtBowl brings together medical students and residents for a fast-paced evening of multispecialty medical trivia, combining friendly competition with opportunities to connect with peers while showcasing medical knowledge and teamwork.

The Southern Medical Association will host next year’s Annual Scientific Assembly and the SMArtBowl in Houston in 2026.
