PHD: Several criteria are used to assess an applicant's potential for success. All successful applicants to the BMS PhD program have research experience; most applicants have spent at least a year in a laboratory. Letters of recommendation from faculty members are very important, particularly the letter from the research advisor. The applicant's personal statement, especially the research description, is also heavily weighed in assessing an applicant's potential for graduate study. Strong performance in undergraduate science courses is expected. GRE scores, Verbal+Quantitative combined are typically above 300; and undergraduate GPA is typically above 3.0. Averages for this year's PhD are 313 and 3.56 respectively
Master's: Verbal and Quantitative GRE scores are typically above 300, MCAT scores above 500 and GPA above 3.0.
February 1st is the deadline for priority consideration for Ph.D. applications, with a deadline of April 1st. Deadlines are between July 1st and August 1st depending on the Master's program. We sometimes accept applications after these dates, but only until the class is filled. It is best to apply early as classes may fill before the application deadline.
There is no application fee for any BMS PhD or Master's program
The institution code for both the GRE and the TOEFL is 6178.
If an international applicant has a BA or MA from a U.S. University, or an English-speaking university, the TOEFL is waived. Also, an international student who attended a U.S. university for one or two years (but did not graduate from that university), may request to have the TOEFL waived.
PhD: The Program Office arranges to interview all PhD applicants whom they are considering for admission. Interviews of overseas applicants may be conducted by phone. Most interviews take place between late January through March. Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis between February 1 and April 15. All offer letters will be sent before April 15.
Masters: Applications are reviewed as soon as all required application materials have been received. You will receive reminders of what application material is still needed in order for your application to be complete. Once all materials are received, you can usually expect a decision within two weeks at most.

All Ph.D. students accepted for full time study into the Ph.D. program will receive a tuition waiver, paid health insurance and competitive 12-month stipends. Most Ph.D. students receive a Teaching Assistance stipend, and a non-services required stipend. Superior US Applicants can also be considered for certain fellowships.
Masters applicants are not automatically eligible for Financial Aid. Applicants requiring assistance will have to apply for loans through the Office of Financial Aid.
