Ophthalmology - Corneal/External Diseases Fellowship

The Tulane Department of Ophthalmology offers a one-year Corneal Fellowship program, beginning July 1 and continuing through June the following year. We accept one fellow per year who accompany Dr. Delmar R. Caldwell in his clinics and surgeries.

Fellows gain clinical experience managing diverse patient populations at Tulane Medical Center, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System in New Orleans, the Alexandria VA Medical Center, and the University Medical Center. Corneal transplant patients seen in these clinics undergo surgery at their respective hospitals. The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System in New Orleans serves as a referral center for corneal patients from the VA Hospitals in Alexandria, Louisiana, and Biloxi, Mississippi. Tulane’s Refractive Center, featuring Intralase technology, making it the first and only site in Louisiana offering Intralase Enabled Keratoplasty.

Past corneal fellows have indicated that the fellowship year at Tulane was a tremendous asset to their ongoing education in ophthalmology.
