Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Statement

The Tulane Department of Ophthalmology is committed to creating and maintaining a positive, equitable, diverse, and inclusive training environment. We aim to foster a culture of inclusion that enables our residents, fellows, and faculty to reach their full potential as clinicians and ophthalmic surgeons. The department recruits diverse staff, residents, fellows, and faculty that mirror the culture and patient population that is unique to Louisiana. Our educational programs value the individual and encourage safe and professional communication to strengthen the cultural competency of our department. Our goal is that all staff, residents, fellows, and faculty feel supported and mentored with equal access to opportunities for education, personal growth, and professional advancement.

Our department holds journal clubs and other meetings to encourage discussion regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of ophthalmology. Our department also participates in the Minority Ophthalmology Mentoring Program of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO)/Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO).
